Xentex Flip-Pad Voyager On eBay

Posted in Unique at 1:27 am by Luxor

Laptop

I do a lot of moaning about lack of desktop real estate when it comes to computers, but even I can’t fathom the purpose of this Xentex Flip-Pad Voyager “laptop.” It looks like somebody hacked it down the middle with a machete, and the entire laptop does in fact fold in half (twice) to make it slightly more portable. The eye-catching feature is, of course, the dual 13.3″ (1024 x 768) screens, one of which rotates completely around so that you can… Uh… Give a presentation? Or something? While the 12 pound weight and 20″ width are a bit of a turn-off, the huge size allows for a disgustingly large and spacious keyboard, as well as a high resolution trackpad that works as a drawing tablet with the included stylus.

The Xentex Flip-Pad Voyager dates from late 2002 or early 2003, when it was available with an Athalon 4 (remember those?) up to 1.6GHz, 512mb of RAM, and ports up the wazoo, for a decidedly corporate $5000. The version currently on eBay is only about half as fast (and it needs some work), but the bidding is currently well under $1000, so if you’d like a bizarre new computer to play with, this could be your big chance.

World Record for a Color Diamond $8.9 million

Posted in Luxuries at 6:34 am by Princess

Diamond

According to Christie’s, a blue diamond of 13.39 cts. became the most important color diamond sold at auction anywhere in the world during the past 10 years. Offered at the auction house in Geneva on Wednesday, reached a world record price of $ 8.9 million.

“This impressive result is due to the shortage of colored diamonds on the market, as well as the high demand for collectors around the world exceptional artworks and jewelry that is currently dominating the auction world,” said Francois Curiel, Chairman of Christie’s Europe and auctioneer of the sale.

The auction took in nearly $ 48.3 million, with 11 lots fetching more than one million dollars. Other big sellers include:

* The emerald diamond and pearl necklace for $ 5.6 million.

* A diamond and emerald pearl earrings, $ 4.4 million.

* A colored diamond necklace, $ 3.1 million.

The Trans-Atlantic Telectroscope

Posted in Unique at 6:21 am by Luxor

Telescope

At the risk of sounding like a sci-fi fiction premise, the Trans-Atlantic Telectroscope offers hope a unique way of connecting the people of New York and London. Commenced as a dream project of the eccentric Victorian engineering entrepreneur Alexander Stanhope St George, a tunnel that lay unused all these years has been fitted out with a giant “electronic telescope” and state-of-the-art technology. Mr. St George resurrected the project, and built up the Telectroscope after finding out his great-grandfather’s dusty notes and diaries in an attic. The tunnel entrances were reopened beside Tower Bridge in London and Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Needless to say a lot of people are excited at the prospects of “seeing” friends and relatives across the Atlantic Ocean. Imagine standing 3,460 miles away from your loved one and peep into the telescope to see them.

The Telectroscope – installed by Artichoke, probably employs the cutting-edge broadband, camera and satellite technology to close down the gap between the two countries. The Telectroscope uses 6ft screens and a Jules Verne style telescope that shimmers with brass and an assortment of Victorian dials.

car

How many times have you got somebody driving a little too close to your bumper that you’ve wanted to tell off? Sure, you could always flip them the bird, but if they’re not paying enough attention to you, they might not notice. So why not put a nice light-up sign in the back of your car that can get them know how you actually feel with the push of a button?

This little device goes in the back window of your car and can be made to emote things like “Thanks”, “Sorry” and well, flip them the bird for you. Of course there’s a good chance that when you flip this thing on, you are convincing them to drive even worse. Pick one of these up for around $50.

How it works

It simply fixes to the inside of the rear car window using a power suction cup. It’s remote control for the front of the car fixes to the front windscreen (using power suction cup) or optionally can be stowed in a front compartment (it’s fixing bracket can be removed). With the remote control fixed to the front windscreen, pressing it’s buttons to activate messages is very simple to operate. The main unit is powered by 4 AA batteries – there is no long wire to the cigarette lighter. Batteries last for approximately 4 month’s depending on usage.

Ouch! Even the weapons get branded

Posted in Luxuries, Unique at 9:02 am by Princess

Weapon

If you think that tiptoeing on the pricey Hermes shoes while donning the smartest D&G outfit and a complementing Gucci or Fendi handbag can get you labeled as the Queen of brands, then you are still unaware of this latest brand styling. An outlandish synthesis of luxurious style and masculine weapons as well as mechanical gadgets, this line of blinged armory is a part Peter Gronquist’s latest show – The Revolution Will Be Fabulous: A Weapons of Mass Designer Show. This guy has stretched the branding mania a bit too far by labeling replica or non-operative rifles and chain saws with Louis Vuitton, Coach, Gucci, Hermes and the likes. And its not only the name but also the ultra snazzy look that goes in to making them so talked about. For $5,000 you can get a big Versace while the LV Electric chair comes for $4,500. The rifles are averaging at about $3,000 plus with a few dollars up and down according to the design and brand name. The Chanel rocket launcher is launched at $4,500.
