Dark Sun Campaign Guide – D&D Roleplaying Game Supplement

At GenCon Indy 2009, Wizards of the Coast had a big announcement regarding their flagship roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. They announced that in 2010 the next campaign setting would be Dark Sun, the desert world of Athas. This was a very fan-pleasing decision as many gamers hoped that this, would in fact, be the next setting for D&D 4e to be released.

The world of Athas is different than the fantasy settings you typically see in Dungeons & Dragons, like Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Dragonlance. In the world of Athas you have a bleak desert that is more like a ‘Dying Earth’ setting than a fantasy setting.

Magic is much less common in the world of Athas. The world has negatively altered by the destructive forces of magic. Due to this, magic is much less common among the regular population. The replacement for magic in society is psionics. Psionics are more common and accepted among the populace of Athas.

Although the Dark Sun campaign setting has many of the traditional races you’ll see in a fantasy setting, it does have a lot of unique races as well. The setting has the traditional Human, Elf, Dwarf, Half-Elf, and Halfling make-up that you will see in other D&D games. But they also have Half-Giants, Muls (half Dwarf Half Human), and Thri-Kreen (Mantis men).

There is some variation between the classes in Dark Sun and the classes from traditional fantasy settings. First, there really isn’t any equivalent for Paladins, Monks, and Sorcerers in the Dark Sun world. As stated earlier, psionics are much more commonplace so the traditional ‘magic classes’ are either not represented or are drastically altered in this setting.

For anyone not familiar with the Dark Sun setting, it may be good for them (especially the game master) to get leg up on learning the world. The Tribe of One is a short three book series by Simon Hawke that is a great starter series. Also, the Chronicles of Athas is a five book series with multiple authors, so you can get a variety of writing styles.

Many of the Dark Sun resources available on the internet are free for fans to use. There is the Unofficial Dark Sun Wiki, a Dark Sun interactive Atlas for the World of Athas, the Official Dark Sun Discussion Forum at Wizards of the Coast, and many other product releases that are available if you know where to look.

I, and many other fans, am ecstatic about the choice of Dark Sun as the next setting for Dungeon & Dragons 4e. It is a fan pleasing choice that gives more variety to the D&D 4e settings. Look for the Dark Sun Campaign Guide in 2010 from Wizards of the Coast.

Visiting The Languedoc Roussillon France

Visiting the Languedoc Roussillon France is something everyone should experience just once in their lifetime. It’s a fascinating place with a diversity and history that’s hard to match up against. It boast of 26 regions with five departments. It’s bordered on the side by Andorra and Spain, and also the Mediterranean. Then the other side is marked off by the Midi-Pyrenees, the Auvergne, the Rhone-Alpes, and the Provenc-Alpes-Cote. It’s a treasure trove of diversity just from its layout alone.

The flag that use to fly for this region was made up of the Cross of Languedoc with the Flag of Roussillon, but was changed later on to one of two colors instead. They chose not to refer back to the old provinces, and so they flew the colors of Red and Yellow in honor of the old existing territories that were once part of the ‘Crown of Aragon’.

This French region has been well known for its winemaking for many centuries. It’s vineyards span out across 740, 300 acres, tripling the amount of area covered by the Bordeau. It took some entrepreneurs like Robert Skalli and James Herrick to transform it into a more viable wine country. They accomplished this by planting grapes better suited for winemaking and then petitioning for new AOC classifications.

When speaking of this region, you may often hear it called ‘France’s Sunbelt’. It occupies the space between the Pyrenees and the mountains of Massif. For 150 miles it’s coastline stretches out and displays some of the most breathtaking beaches ever existing in France. They get the word ‘Languedoc’ itself from the old 13th century word for the tongue that was spoken then.

If you ever get the chance to visit Languedoc Roussillon, you’ll find it quite a fascinating place for history and culture. You won’t be short of things to do for sure. There are unspoiled beaches to see with nudity allowed, and there is great architecture and wines to hold your interest as well.

Visiting the Languedoc Roussillon France is a trip that you’ll never forget. You’ll wonder why you haven’t heard more about it before. It lies quietly between the mountains, beckoning for wandering pilgrims to stop by and have a peek at it’s wonder and splendor.

The Marvels Of Chicago Attractions

Chicago is a world in its own that first time visitors find themselves not knowing where to begin their exploration. For starters on discovering Chicago attractions, you can visit the John Hancock Observatory or the Chicago occupational health services Skydeck over at the Sears Tower to have a dramatic overview of Chicagoland.

Next you might want to discover your roots, if they come from this part of the country that is. Regardless, take a walk on Navy Pier. You’ll find the TimeScape that allows you to experience the history of Chicago in a really neat three dimensional journey with motion simulation and all. In Navy Pier, you can also take time for some fun at the Funhouse Maze of Chicago.

I bet you never thought you could explore Chicago in a way as interactive as this one. But that’s not all. For the kids, or even the adults who still have some kid spirit in them, there is another Chicago attraction that is sure to please. It’s called the FireZone, and it help kids understand fire safety directly from the real firefighters who deal with it every day. Kids won’t forget this experience, and they’ll take life lessons home with them.

For a romantic getaway, there are a number of boat tours available for you in Chicago. Come on board the Odyssey and prepare for a romantic lake cruise. While you are out, don’t forget to join one of the many tours that see different niche parts of the city. There is a gourmet dining tour, tours for kids, and plenty of others. And in addition to that, there are also two awesome zoos in Chicago. One of them, the Lincoln Park Zoo, is the oldest in the U.S. but is still one of the best to visit. And my favorite part of it is that it is free to visit all year round.

The second zoo is the Brookfield Zoo which is located on the west side of downtown. It is a marvel of landscaping and has more than two thousand animals in it. Some of the other Chicago attractions that are famous are the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum.

There has been a lot of fuss made about the arrival of the new kindle DX. It ’s is amazon’s latest product and is larger than the first.

The Kindle DX is the same width as the smaller one but the screen has been pushed out to a roomy 9.7 inches and the weight is up to just over 18 ounces.

Just like it’s predecessor it benefits from working right out of the box. there are also no contracts for connection to the Amazon Kindle network and you have access to what is now over 300,000 books which is growing every single day. A normal book is downloaded in less than a minute.

The memory in the DX reader has now been doubled, that means to a user that it can now hold over 3,500 books. The books can also be stored on the Amazon server as well. The specially designed screen uses a special ‘paper ink’ technology, that makes it look just like a printed page. The screen has no glare and can be used in direct sunlight.

The DX also includes a couple of very cool additions.

As you rotate the DX around as you might naturally do in the course of a reading session it changes viewing settings from portrait to landscape and back again. this means that maps, tables and other media such as photos and web pages can be fully viewed.

There is also a full PDF reader integrated into the DX, which allows people to read their PDF / Adobe documents from the machine. Access to the 3G infrastructure also allows them to be downloaded anywhere.

My one criticism is just the price as it is an expensive gadget. This will probably put some buyers off.
